I don’t know if you have noticed, but I have been taking a step away from food media, its hype train, the fluff, the awards, the openings, the closings and trends for quite some time. It’s not just because it’s not indicative of an enjoyable time, but because I keep seeing the same things over and over.
I am bored, disinterested and disappointed.
Media releases all sound like they’ve been written by a bot. There is more often than not, an element of cultural appropriation and/or tone deafness. The key players are widely known for their poor treatment of staff or predatory behaviour. I understand that some PR companies are unaware of the bad behaviour of clients or can’t afford to turn down a client, but, why do they keep getting written about?
I don’t have the answer. I just know this newsletter is probably going to make me incredibly unpopular.
