Gas. I have turned my back on the perfect apartment because of the lack of a gas stove. I’ve given up cheap rent, high ceilings, north-facing windows, balconies, walk-in-robes, ensuites, perfect locations, access to public transport and maximum walkability for a gas stove.
It’s my one non-negotiable.
Well, was.
For the last five years, I’ve been living in an apartment with no gas. In a cruel joke, our side of the street has no gas, but if you look across the alleyway, the apartments opposite do.
I will make do, I said. I will survive. I have overcome larger obstacles.
I ripped out the electric and put in induction.
